On March 17, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte declared Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Life has yet to go back to normal with what was supposed to last for only a month was extended successively from ECQ to Modified ECQ and then into General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Many commercial establishments were still unable to operate and many Filipinos remained jobless under “no work, no pay” status.
Although we continued to generate revenues, we could not ignore the reality that many of our customers would have a difficult time paying for their water bills. Thus, we launched our “BWSI Cares Quarantine Relief Program,” whereby the BWSI Group branches were instructed to implement a “no disconnection policy” from the start of the ECQ until July 2020. Moreover, we offered our customers a P75.00 discount on their June or July water bills.
Our care for the communities we serve was also expressed through the donation of chlorine granules to the LGUs to help them disinfect the public areas like streets and markets. Meanwhile, in the province of Iloilo and in Angeles City, we donated goods such as sardines, instant noodles and coffee to the LGU to contribute to the care packages that they were delivering to their constituents. “To whom much is given, much is expected”. We must always remember to exemplify this saying in our daily lives.
