The Abacan River “Blue Keepers” are taking part in the 2026 World Cleanup Day, bringing the community’s continuing commitment to protecting our waterways to a global movement for cleaner and more sustainable communities.

Led by Balibago Waterworks System, Inc. and the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MACCII), the Abacan River Sustainable Cleanup Program invites volunteers, partner organizations, and community members to join the cleanup activity on September 19, 2026, along the Abacan River in Barangay Pampang.

At least 200 volunteers from partner organizations are expected to take part in the activity, which forms part of the annual World Cleanup Day campaign that brings together communities, organizations, and individuals around the world to address solid waste, improper waste management, and other environmental challenges.

This year’s campaign carries the theme “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities,” highlighting the connection between responsible consumption, reducing food and solid waste, and building cleaner and more sustainable communities.

The participation of the Abacan River Sustainable Cleanup Program also comes with recognition from Let’s Do It World, the global civic organization behind World Cleanup Day. In a September 4 letter to Balibago Waterworks, Let’s Do It World President Heidi Solba congratulated the program partners for their continued efforts to protect the Abacan River and for mobilizing volunteers from the private sector.

The Abacan River Sustainable Cleanup Program was launched during the Earth Day celebration on April 22, 2025. Since then, Balibago Waterworks employees, partner organizations, and community volunteers have come together every third Saturday of the month to collect waste and help restore the river and its surrounding environment.

As the Abacan River joins communities around the world for World Cleanup Day, the Blue Keepers continue to demonstrate that meaningful environmental action begins with collective responsibility—and that every community has a role to play in protecting the waterways we all depend on.

Join the Abacan River Blue Keepers this World Cleanup Day.
